Japanese Food

I'd been really looking forward to visiting Japan because of the food, but it came of a bit of a disappointment. Of course there's sushi and sashimi, but it's not really possible to eat that every day, and also that it's really just pieces of raw fish on top of rice with a little ginger and wasabi, so not really a culinary masterpiece. That aside, it's a lot of noodles, cooked in just about every way imaginable, fried pancake type of things, tonnes of shredded cabbage and various fried ball like things made of squidgy stuff, and all pretty bland. Always looks good and well presented, just don't really like paying $50 for ten mouthfuls of fancy looking things followed by a big plate of noodles and shredded cabbage.

Also, there seems to be a lack of variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, even in the big supermarkets, which tend to be limited to a few salad greens, cabbage, cucumber, carrots, big raddishy things, apples and the ten dollar peaches and thirty dollar melons. Supermarkets have a huge selection of ready to eat foods, sushi, curry and noodle meals, and provide hot water and microwaves for those in a hurry (also helps for those on a budget!).
