After being on the road for six weeks, we decided to take a few days in Wanaka to rest, recuperate and plan our next adventures! After driving over the Haast Pass, it was like suddenly arriving in summer time, and we've had a week of pretty warm weather next to some gorgeous alpine scenery, and managed to get in a few walks too, including a quick day ascent and descent of Roy's Peak... 1,200 metres up and down in a few hours... but also enjoyed Puzzle World, New Zealand Fighter Pilots Museum (they've a flying Hawker Hurricane) and the Cinema.

So what's the next plans??? The Keplar track is closed due to avalance danger, and so is part of the Routeburn (I guess we're

just too early), so we'll visit Fiordland, likely doing day walks, though the Hollyford is a possibility... crossing back into the north island in two weeks before heading on to Chile, only three weeks left, time flies! Still hope to get a couple of decent tramps in before we move on.
As for the next steps... well, we're investigating Spanish courses in Santiago, and we've volunteered ourselves for a penguin survey in the Falkland Islands... onward and upwards! See some more pics of the Wanaka area
here!
