We'd heard that the town was a surfer type of beach town, and would be a good, relatively quiet place to spend the new year. Well, arrival was quiet indeed, as everyone was at home preparing for the new year celebrations. Chileans tend to party at home and then head out about 11pm to join in the municipal celebrations.
Checked into our cabanas at the end of a dusty road outside of town, reminding ourselves that one needs to be careful of choosing a place recommended in a guidebook! Headed down town about 10.30 in the evening to the central park, where there were various stalls and a band playing. Had brochettas and hot dogs from the BBQ, wine and joined in the good cheer. People really started to arrive just before midnight for the countdown to midnight and the fireworks. A sort of family fun occasion, followed by champagne as the new year began.
So, this is mine and Celine's fourth New Year together, and the fourth continent we've been in during the festive season... life indeed is good! So Happy New Year to everyone, may all your dreams and wishes come true... I still can't believe its 2010!!!
